Ethics / Data Protection / Code of Conduct

The therapies offered by myself, Carol Fenner (My Inner Self) cannot claim to cure, but can significantly improve the quality of life on all levels, as a support system.

All sessions, whether face to face or online, are confidential. My background as a Counsellor and Adult Guidance Adviser ensures that I have a strong grounding in ethics.

The objective of this service is to serve humanity for its greatest good. I honour all peoples and all paths as sacred. I acknowledge that healing relationships occur within all of existence and may include people, animals, plants and the environment, locally, globally and cosmically.

I provide services commensurate with my training and perform only those services for which I am qualified.

I ensure that my knowledge is kept up to date with CPD and I engage in monthly personal development.

I embrace the following principals in my professional behaviour: reverence, respect, trust, honesty, integrity, equality, competence, generosity, courage, humility and confidentiality. I maintain compassionate regard for my client by demonstrating a way of being that is courteous, tactful, sensitive, accepting, empathetic and non-judgmental.

I maintain clear and honest communication with my clients. If I become unavailable or a client does not wish to continue working with me I endeavour to make appropriate referrals to other therapists.

I do not make medical diagnoses or prescribe medications without appropriate training. Any wellness products that I recommend are presented in a factual and professional manner.

I provide a safe, welcoming, supportive and comfortable environment that is conducive to healing.

I inform clients of possible outcomes and side effects. I provide information on what to expect during a session such as : length of session, punctuality and lateness policy, cancellation policy and fees.

I keep basic notes on each client, which include contact details, date of birth and date of session. This information is only shared with other parties with the consent of the client. Notes are stored in my locked studio and destroyed if there has been no recent contact.  I use an online scheduler and payment platform called Acuity, where the same detail on each client is stored.  This is a password protected application.  All client details are deleted from this application if there has been no recent contact.

I will only use your personal data for the purpose for which it was collected for (for example – date of birth is collected in order to provide a colour or number interpretation).

How I interpret Privacy on the Internet

Giant tech companies infiltrate so many areas of our lives now. I decided some years ago to extract myself from their privacy invading platforms.  I do not wish to rely solely on social media or marketing techniques that fuel surveillance capitalism.

Surveillance capitalism describes a market driven process where the commodity for sale is your personal data, and the capture and production of this data relies on mass surveillance of the internet. This activity is often carried out by companies that provide us with free online services, such as search engines and social media platforms.

These companies collect and scrutinise our online behaviours (likes, dislikes, searches, social networks, purchases) to produce data that can be further used for commercial purposes. And it is often done without us understanding the full extent of the surveillance.

This is why I predominantly use Telegram and Signal at the present time.
